On a sweltering August morning, Edgar Ureste recalls, he discovered that he’d left the gate of his corral unlatched and that his horse Corona, a handsome three-year-old brown mare with a white star on her nose, was missing. Corona, who was born in the early days of the pandemic that inspired her name, had been a gift for his daughter for her fourth birthday.
