DART is Considering Increasing Their Rates

Array ( [post_title] => DART is Considering Increasing Their Rates [post_content] =>

(WBAP/KLIF) – DALLAS, TX – Several cities are asking about the money being spent on DART, and have stated that they are not getting enough out of the public transit system to justify the expense. In response, DART is considering changes to their fares. The $2.50 single ride option would be eliminated for a three hour pass costing $3 for local rides. The annual pass would also be eliminated leaving only the monthly pass option which would increase from $96 a month to $126. The price for day passes would remain the same.

A handful of cities, including Farmers Branch, Irving, Plano, Rowlett, and Carrollton have voted to reduce their funding to DART. Both Dallas and University Park are considering a vote, but unilaterally reducing their tax rate is an action that can only be made by the DART board of directors. Any changes would also have to apply to all 13 member cities.

State’s Largest Migrant Shelter Accused of Child Sex Abuse

Array ( [post_title] => State’s Largest Migrant Shelter Accused of Child Sex Abuse [post_content] =>

(WBAP/KLIF) — What was supposed to be a safe haven for unaccompanied migrant children is now the focus of a Department of Justice sexual abuse investigation. The largest migrant shelter in Austin facing child sex abuse charges, as Southwest Key operates 29 child migrant shelters, 17 of those are located in Texas.

The DOJ says supervisors and employees are accused of taking nude photos, touching, soliciting sex and even raping children in their care. The Feds said that the abuse has been occurring since at least 2015. Health and Human Services reported nearly 7,800 children in Southwest Key’s care as of June, ranging in age from 5 to 17.

The shelter has been accused of “severe, pervasive, and unwelcome sexual abuse and harassment” of children in its care. Southwest Key also has shelters in Arizona and California.
