SAN ANTONIO (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Authorities in San Antonio are investigating why a 5-year-old girl was left tied up and abandoned behind a fast-food restaurant.

Police Sgt. Patrick Day says authorities received a call about 2:30 a.m. Friday from a drug store employee who spotted the child alone behind a nearby Burger King.

Police have tracked down the girl’s father who says she’d been in the care of her mother, who is his estranged wife. The child has been reunited with her father. Her mother’s whereabouts aren’t immediately known.

The girl had marks on her wrists consistent with being tied up but police say she is otherwise not hurt. Day says investigators are looking into whether any charges will be filed against whoever abandoned her.

Police told KENS 5, the CBS affiliate in San Antonio, the girl’s mother is believed to have left her in the parking lot, and she was released into her father’s custody.

SAPD’s east-side patrol also told KENS 5 the girl’s mother was seen at the Walgreens location trying to purchase something, but did not have enough money to pay.

She reportedly argued with Walgreens staff around 11:30 p.m. Thursday regarding that incident.
